Tourism Minister R. Rajendran kicked off the sports competition for the Chief Minister’s trophy here on Tuesday (August 26, 2025). Based on the demands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to postpone the competitions scheduled on Vinayaka Chathurthi, the competition to be held on Wednesday has been postponed to August 30.
The Minister inaugurated the sports competition at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium. The competitions will be held till September 12.
At the function, Mr. Rajendran said that to bring the State to a forefront position in sports, the State government is implementing various schemes and providing sports equipment to people. Every year, the Chief Minister’s trophy sports competition is held in five categories, including school and college students, the public, differently-abled persons, and government staff. The sports competition, including athletics, swimming, volleyball, basketball, and Kabbadi, will be held.
