Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin virtually laid the foundation stone for the construction of a sports hostel building at the Multi Sports Complex in the Government Engineering College premises at Karuppur on Friday.
The Deputy Chief Minister participated in the function from Chennai and in Salem, officials led by District Revenue Officer (DRO) Ravikumar participated in the function.
The officials said that the sports hostel will be constructed in 1,614 sq. mt. in 18 months. The accommodation capacity of the hostel will be 70, and will have an office, visitor’s lounge, warden room, sick room, sports material store, kitchen, dining pantry with store, a gym area with 81 sq. mt, a store and record room, a TV room, study area, gas manifold room, and toilets.
Officials attached to the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) said that the building is proposed to be constructed as a framed structure with isolated footings. Double-charged vitrified tiles will be used in the corridor and room areas. Granite is planned for the staircase, anti-skid tiles for the ramp and ceramic tiles for the toilet and bath areas. The building will be finished with plastering and painting. For the elevation, structural glazing and cladding tiles have been considered, the SDAT officials added.
